In recent years, Facebook has dominated the social networking media. Businesses have been able to target individuals by using Facebook as a key advertising tool; hence cutting costs. Facebook gives businesses a direct way to reach their customer base. I propose to write a report on how businesses can better their marketing strategy to Gen Y clients so that their attention is captivated on this social networking site.
Businesses such as Target have utilized Facebook as a way to advertise to Gen Y effectively. From our focus group results however, Gen-Y is mainly not concerned with ads and find it bothersome to be a member of a business Facebook group. I propose to write a report on how businesses can market to Gen-Y in a better format.
Need
Businesses could improve their sales if they improved their ways of effective marketing. From our focus group session it was discovered that most Gen Y users are not concerned with business ads; hence it cannot be stressed enough that businesses need to advertise wisely to their audience:
According to a social media optimization article, Target used better marketing strategies than its competitor, Wal-Mart.
Target unlike Wal-Mart decided not to use its TV campaign slogan on its Facebook page. Instead Target used words such as “awesome” to better associate with its audience.
Discounts and promotions were kept off Targets page, as well as overly bold and stylish page presentation
Target felt that their site should reflect the “visual language of its members”
Since Gen-Y feels bombarded with business ads, and generally not concerned it is important for businesses to advertise simplistically on their Facebook page in order to attract an interested audience. Businesses should focus on creating an integrated social media strategy that allows their users to interact on Facebook.
Topics
The proposed report, “Targeting Gen-Y audiences effectively through Facebook ads” will focus on the following topics:
Gen-Y is least concerned with bothersome ads on Facebook
Knowing a way to communicate to Gen-Y means using appropriate language
Businesses should direct their strategies to converse and not shout, as Target portrays
Learn about Gen-Y through Facebook and address accordingly
